Woman's body transported on handcart from Faridabad hospital after TB death due to lack of ambulance
A tragic incident has exposed the dire state of government healthcare in Faridabad, where a woman suffering from tuberculosis died at B.K. Civil Hospital. Her husband was forced to carry her body on a handcart due to the unavailability of an ambulance or hearse. The deceased, 35-year-old Sumitra, had been undergoing treatment for TB for three months. Despite the hospital being only 7 kilometers from her village, no government ambulance was provided for over 1.5 hours. The family had already spent a significant amount on her treatment, and with their finances depleted, they were unable to afford a private ambulance, which quoted ₹500-₹700 for the short distance. The husband, a daily wage laborer, ultimately used his work handcart to transport his wife's body. The family also stated they lack funds for the cremation. A deputy civil surgeon acknowledged the situation and promised an investigation, highlighting the disparity between government claims and the ground reality for the poor.
