NCP Merger Talks Were In Final Stages Before Ajit Pawar's Demise, Senior Leader Reveals
Senior NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Eknath Khadse revealed that advanced talks for a merger between the Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar factions were underway for several months and nearing completion. The plan included contesting local body and panchayat elections under the 'clock' symbol and a formal merger announcement. However, the process halted following the unfortunate death of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati on Wednesday. NCP leader Anil Deshmukh also confirmed these merger discussions, stating it was Ajit Pawar's final wish for the two factions to unite. Earlier this year, both groups had informally collaborated on certain seats in the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections.
