Punjab Government Modernizes Bus Service with Digital Ticketing and New Fleet
The Punjab government is set to overhaul its state bus service by introducing a fully digital and modern system. Key upgrades include QR code and UPI payments, online ticketing via a mobile app, the addition of 1,279 new buses, and the development of modern bus terminals in five cities. The existing free bus facility for women will continue, offering significant annual savings. The initiative aims to benefit women, the elderly, students, and daily commuters. The fleet expansion will see PUNBUS and PRTC acquire new buses equipped with modern features like wheelchair accessibility, BS-VI engines, CCTV cameras, and GPS tracking. New bus terminals in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Sangrur, Patiala, and Bathinda will be modernized under a Public-Private Partnership model, featuring improved amenities and accessibility for all passengers. This transformation is positioned as a step towards women's empowerment and setting a new standard for public transport in India.
