Court Sets March 9th for 'Land for Jobs' Scam Trial Start
The judicial process for the 'Land for Jobs' scam, involving allegations of land acquisition in exchange for railway jobs, is accelerating. The Rouse Avenue Court has scheduled the trial to commence on March 9th. Several members of the Lalu family are accused in this high-profile case, while some individuals have already been granted relief. Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav appeared in court, denying the charges and stating their intention to face trial. Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Tej Pratap Yadav have been granted permission to appear in court on any day between February 1st and 25th, with prior notification to the court. Consequently, formal charges have not yet been framed against Lalu Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and Rabri Devi. The court had previously indicated sufficient prima facie evidence against 41 individuals, including the Lalu family, while 52 people were acquitted. The scam allegedly occurred between 2004-2009 when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister, with allegations that land was taken from candidates or their families in return for Group-D railway positions, with the land subsequently transferred to the Lalu family or their associates. The trial for 41 accused will begin on March 9th.
