Congress Slams Centre Over Darbhanga AIIMS Delay, Alleges Only Gate Pillar Built in 10 Years
The Congress party has heavily criticized the central government regarding the delayed construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga, Bihar. The party claims that, despite 10 years since its announcement, only a main gate pillar has been constructed on the site, contrary to government assertions of progress. Congress spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making false statements about the AIIMS project. Local residents and student organizations have also voiced strong dissatisfaction, labeling the delay a betrayal of the people of Mithila and threatening protests if construction does not accelerate. The Darbhanga AIIMS project, costing 1264 crore and spanning 187 acres, was announced in 2015, its proposal passed in 2020, and Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone in November 2024.
