PM Modi Inaugurates Development Projects in Bengal, Criticizes TMC Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Hooghly, West Bengal, where he inaugurated, laid the foundation stone for, and dedicated multiple development projects in Singur. Addressing public gatherings, PM Modi emphasized that the development of Eastern India is crucial for achieving the vision of a "Developed India," a goal the central government is actively pursuing. He highlighted enhanced connectivity with the launch of India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train and several new Amrit Bharat Express trains, including a service connecting Kashi (Varanasi) with Bengal.
Modi underscored a special focus on multi-modal connectivity and green mobility, aiming to integrate ports, waterways, highways, and airports for seamless transport. He cited substantial central government investment in enhancing the capacity and connectivity of the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port under the Sagarmala scheme. The Prime Minister also inaugurated another set of development projects exceeding 830 crore rupees.
Critiquing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, PM Modi accused it of obstructing central schemes and fostering "enmity towards the people of Bengal," thereby preventing benefits from reaching them. He connected the slogan "Vande Mataram," which he noted originated in Hooghly, to the aspiration for a developed Bengal and India. Modi also referenced the BJP government's efforts to honor Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and pledged to replace the alleged "Jungle Raj" of TMC with genuine change, promising policies to boost jute packaging and support the agricultural sector.
