Odisha SEC Rules Out Early Panchayat Elections, Confirms 2027 Schedule
The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) has clarified that the three-tier panchayat elections will be held as scheduled in 2027, dismissing earlier suggestions by the state BJP president, Manmohan Samal, of an early poll. SEC Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi confirmed that elections will occur after the five-year term of the existing Panchayati Raj Institutions concludes. Preparations for the 2027 elections, including identifying polling stations and ensuring ballot box availability, are already underway and being regularly monitored. The ruling BJD has criticized the BJP for making premature statements on a constitutional matter.
