Odisha: Internet Shut Down, Section 144 Imposed in Sundargarh After Communal Clash
Authorities in Sundargarh, Odisha, have imposed Section 144 and suspended internet services until Friday evening following a violent clash between two communities. The incident, which occurred in the Regent Market area, reportedly stemmed from an argument over food items that escalated into stone-pelting and the use of sharp weapons, leaving at least 12 people injured, including police personnel. Two individuals have been detained, and a search for other suspects is ongoing based on CCTV footage. To maintain law and order, nine additional platoons of armed forces have been deployed, bringing the total to 19 platoons, and security has been heightened in nearby areas like Rourkela and Rajgangpur. All schools, colleges, and non-essential businesses in the municipal area are closed. The administration is engaging with community elders for a peace committee meeting and has urged residents to disregard rumors and cooperate in maintaining peace.
