MP Rashid Engineer Granted Custody Parole for Budget Session Amid Terror Funding Charges
A Delhi court has granted custody parole to Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail on terror financing charges, to attend the ongoing budget session of Parliament. Rashid, representing Baramulla, will be allowed to attend parliamentary proceedings from February 28 to April 2. The court specified that his travel from Tihar Jail to Parliament will be permitted only on days the session is active. This is not the first time Rashid has received custody parole; he was previously granted similar leave to participate in the monsoon session and vote in the vice-presidential election. The expenses associated with his transport during parole are to be determined by the Delhi High Court. Rashid Engineer has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 in connection with a terror funding case. Despite his incarceration, he won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Baramulla, defeating Omar Abdullah.
