Malegaon Civic Elections See New Muslim Political Force Emerge, Ousting Traditional Parties

In the Malegaon Municipal Corporation elections, the Indian Secular Largest Assembly of Maharashtra (ISLAM) party, founded by former Congress MLA Sheikh Asif, has emerged as the dominant force, securing the most seats and poised to form the new administration. Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM will be the main opposition party. This outcome signifies a significant shift in the Muslim voting pattern in Maharashtra, with voters in the Muslim-majority Malegaon decisively rejecting the BJP and Congress.
