Supreme Court Demands Actionable Plans for Delhi-NCR Pollution Control, Not Just Proposals

The Supreme Court has emphasized that mere planning is insufficient to tackle air pollution in Delhi-NCR, demanding concrete plans for resource allocation and accountability. The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) informed the court about a detailed report submitted by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) outlining long-term solutions and ongoing expert studies on pollution sources. The ASG also clarified that the issue of illegal construction, raised by a petitioner, is separate from the primary pollution case. The court has asked the Amicus Curiae to review the government's affidavit and explore further concrete steps. The ASG assured the court that funds are available and will be allocated based on ground-level requirements, with detailed studies to identify pollution sources. The Supreme Court indicated it will base future directions on expert opinions, stressing that strategies without clear accountability and resource plans are incomplete.
