Rajasthan Enacts Law to Regulate Property Transactions in 'Disturbed Areas'
Rajasthan's BJP government has decided to implement a new law aimed at regulating property transactions in areas identified as 'disturbed' due to population imbalance and communal tension. Under this law, property owners in designated disturbed areas will require written permission from the District Magistrate (DM) to sell their immovable assets. The DM will verify that the seller is not under duress and is receiving fair market value for their property. The legislation also includes a provision for a 3 to 5-year prison sentence for violations. A special committee will be formed to identify these disturbed areas. The government states the law will prevent the forced sale of property by minority communities at low prices and maintain social equilibrium in areas with rapid population growth of specific communities. The move is seen as politically significant, with the government asserting it will enhance security, while the opposition may raise concerns about polarization.
