Protests Erupt at Ranchi University Over New UGC Regulation

Tensions flared outside Ranchi University's Aryabhatt Auditorium as supporters and opponents of the new University Grants Commission (UGC) Equity Regulation clashed, engaging in loud sloganeering. The university administration attempted to mediate the situation. The new regulation has sparked significant political and social debate across Jharkhand. While OBC and tribal organizations support the rule, citing it as necessary to combat discrimination and pointing to a rise in discriminatory incidents on campuses, students and teachers from the forward castes are protesting.
