The Madhya Pradesh government has established a committee, led by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Shukla, to investigate the deaths caused by contaminated water in Bhagirathpura, Indore. The committee is tasked with submitting its report within one month, determining accountability for the incident. The probe will delve into the root causes of water contamination, analyze administrative and technical shortcomings, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences. The committee will also review relevant records and conduct on-site inspections. The High Court was informed of seven deaths linked to the tragedy, including an infant. However, an internal audit report suggests up to 15 deaths may be connected to the outbreak, while residents claim 24 fatalities. The administration has provided compensation to families of 21 deceased, citing humanitarian grounds for assistance to all affected.
