Heavy Snowfall in Manali and Kullu Disrupts Tourism Amidst Infrastructure Challenges

Manali and Kullu Valley are experiencing significant snowfall, boosting the tourism industry with hotels reporting 90% occupancy. However, tourists are facing severe disruptions due to traffic jams and shortages of power and water, forcing some to walk up to 15 kilometers. The heavy snowfall has paralyzed life in Kullu district, with 582 electricity transformers and 81 drinking water schemes non-functional. National Highway-3 is blocked by snow, causing long queues of vehicles and slow progress for tourists. Despite the severe weather, hotels are heavily booked, some even overbooked until January 31st. The sub-zero temperatures and lack of basic amenities present a significant challenge for visitors. Many tourists have advised others against visiting Manali currently, fearing worse conditions with more snowfall. The administration is struggling to clear roads, which remain a major hurdle to connectivity. While the snow has boosted the tourism business and provided an adventurous experience for many, the lack of infrastructure is a considerable concern.
