Former Congress Leader Acquitted in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case
A Delhi court has acquitted former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The court ordered his release after considering the lack of evidence and the arguments presented by Kumar in connection with violence that occurred in Janakpuri and Vikaspuri. The case stemmed from two FIRs filed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2015, concerning the murders of Sohan Singh and Avatar Singh, and the burning alive of Gurcharan Singh in November 1984. Kumar maintained his innocence, asserting that no evidence linked him to the violence and that the investigating agency had not conducted a fair investigation.
