Delhi Municipal Corporation Allocates ₹10 Crore for Dog Shelters to Address Stray Dog Issue
The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) is preparing to spend a substantial amount to tackle the stray dog problem. The upcoming budget is expected to allocate ₹10 crore for the expansion and enhancement of three dog shelters. This initiative aims to improve the infrastructure and maintenance of these facilities, accommodating the city's large stray dog population and enhancing public safety. Currently, a dog shelter in Dwarka, with an initial capacity for 1,500 aggressive dogs, is under construction. The MCD has also proposed two additional shelters in Bijwasan and Bela Road, which will feature 14 and 40 kennels respectively. Alongside shelter expansion, the capacity of Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers will also be increased. The MCD reported that over 54,000 stray dogs were sterilized between April and September 2025.
